About RAISE
Second-hand smoke has many consequences for health, including an increased risk of breast cancer. Vietnamese American women experience high rates of both, but we do not know enough about how Vietnamese American history and culture affect these health factors to reduce their negative impacts on women’s health.
Our goal for this project is to understand how Vietnamese American women view and experience second-hand smoke exposure, preventive health, and breast cancer risk throughout their lives. We will use this information to create programs specifically for Vietnamese American women to improve awareness of breast cancer risk factors and overall community health.
This project is a collaboration between researchers at USC and BPSOS-Center for Community Advancement (CCA), a community organization that promotes population health of Asian American communities across the United States and globally.
What we plan to do
We will be conducting online surveys and in-depth interviews with Vietnamese American women to understand their knowledge and beliefs of second-hand smoking and breast cancer.
